How To Store Dark Chocolate During Summer

Summer can be tough for chocolate lovers like us, but don’t worry! Even when it’s hot outside, we can still enjoy our favorite treat with some easy tricks. So, you don’t have to give up chocolate during the warm months. It’s just a matter of storing it correctly. Keep reading for some tips on how to store dark chocolate during summer.

Keep chocolate from melting and losing its temper 

Chocolate is delicious in winter or summer, but it needs proper storage to stay tasty, preventing dark chocolate from melting in the summer heat. To keep chocolate good, store it in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from sunlight, heat, and air. That way, it will keep its glossy look, smooth feel, and nice snap when you break a piece.

When chocolate loses its special texture called temper, it becomes softer and gets white streaks on it. The good news is that it will harden again when you bring it to a cooler place, but it won’t be the same shiny and snappy chocolate we love.

For instance, the dark chocolates from Le Chocolat des Iles are known for their rich flavor and excellent temper. When stored properly, it maintains its glossy appearance, smooth texture, and satisfying snap, making every bite as enjoyable as the last, even in the heat of summer.

Store dark chocolate during summer in a cool place, not cold

Chocolate likes to be in a comfy spot between 12 and 20 degrees Celsius, not too hot or cold. If you have a cool room in your apartment or cellar, that’s a great place to keep it in the summer. But don’t worry if it gets a bit warmer, chocolate can handle temperatures up to 26°C. 

When you keep chocolate at a steady temperature below 21°C and with humidity less than 55%, it will stay good for many months. But even in a cool, dry place, be careful! Chocolate can absorb the smells around it. 

So if you don’t want your chocolate to taste like other things, make sure to follow these two rules:

  • Place them in an airtight container.
  • Do not expose them to light.

Refrigerate if necessary 

Sometimes, when the temperatures get too high, you have no choice but to refrigerate them. Summer can be really hot, and not everyone has air conditioning. If you want to keep your chocolate safe, don’t put it directly in the fridge. 

Instead, wrap it tightly to protect it from smells and moisture, and then put it in a sealed container. When you want to eat it, let the chocolate warm up to room temperature before unwrapping it. By doing this, your chocolates can stay tasty for three to six months.
